The London Underground is the oldest underground railway in the world: its first section opened in 1863. It has 11 lines divided into two classes: the subsurface (low depth) routes and the deep-tube routes. The Circle (yellow), District (green), Hammersmith & City (pink), and Metropolitan (dark magenta) lines make up the subsurface class. The Bakerloo (brown), Central (red), Jubilee (silver), Northern (black), Piccadilly (dark blue), Victoria (light blue) and Waterloo & City (turquoise) lines are the deep-tube routes.
This map I brought myself from London, in February/March 2009, and is dated from October 2008. It is already outdated, since it does not feature the extension of the Circle line to Hammersmith (announced shortly after, and opened in December 2009).
Besides the London Underground lines, the map shows the London Overground and the Docklands Light Railway (DLR), in orange and teal contours, respectively.
